Prof. O’Sullivan is a co-PI in the SFI ADAPT centre for Digital Content Technology (2015- ). Previously he was a co-PI with the SFI FAME Strategic Research Cluster (2009-2014) and Funded Investigator in the SFI CNGL centre (2007-2014). Within TCD, Prof. O’Sullivan is Director of Research at the School of Computer Science and Statistics (65 academics).
He was awarded a BA (Mod) in Computer Science from Trinity in 1985. He then worked as a Research Assistant in Trinity, and undertook a MSc in Computer Science part-time, which was awarded in 1988. Declan joined industry working as a principal investigator in Broadcom Eireann research limited (a joint research venture between Eircom and Ericsson) between 1988 and 1995. He then joined IONA technologies as a principal research investigator between 1995 and 2001. After his appointment in TCD in 2001 as an Assistant Professor, he was awarded a PhD in Computer Science from Trinity in 2006, a SFI co- principal investigator award since 2009, and promoted to TCD Associate Professor in 2012.
Prof. O’Sullivan’s own background in industrial research (through Broadcom and IONA Technologies) is also bearing fruit not only in the research outcomes but with his team in the establishment of close and productive links with close co-operation being achieved with Ordnance Survey Ireland, Huawei, and Accenture.
Prof. O’Sullivan has approximately 200 peer-reviewed publications in his academic career since 2001.
